The President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Academician Ion Tighineanu, held a meeting with Her Excellency Ms. Dong Zhihua, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and academic institutions in the People’s Republic of China, as well as on identifying new opportunities for collaboration in research, innovation, and academic exchanges.
The meeting was attended by members of the leadership of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and representatives of its scientific sections: Vice-President of the ASM, Academician Eva Gudumac, Coordinator of the Section of Life Sciences; Vice-President of the ASM, Academician Ion Hadârcă, Coordinator of the Section of Social, Economic, Humanistic Sciences and Arts; Academician Boris Boincean; Academician Boris Găină; and Dr. Tudor Braniște, Head of the Department of Academic Management and External Relations.
During the meeting, the President of the ASM, Academician Ion Tighineanu, presented the Academy’s main areas of activity and reviewed the cooperation developed in recent years with academic institutions in the People’s Republic of China, highlighting the results achieved through the organization of scientific conferences, reciprocal visits, and the implementation of joint projects.
Academician Ion Tighineanu also presented the initiatives planned for this autumn, including the organization in Chișinău of the Moldova–China Forum on Chernozem Farming and the launch of an international interdisciplinary school for master’s and doctoral students, in partnership with Wuhan University of Technology.
It was also noted that, at recent editions of the summer school for pupils entitled “The Path to Scientific Discoveries,” organized by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Academy of Young People of Moldova, in partnership with the Romanian Academy and the specialized academies of Romania that are members of the Romanian Academic Council, lectures were delivered by Professor Xiao-Yu Yang of Wuhan University of Technology, an Honorary Member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
The President of the ASM also emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation with academic institutions in China, including by deepening collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, promoting exchanges of researchers and students, and developing new joint projects in science, technology, and culture.
For her part, Her Excellency Ms. Dong Zhihua praised the development of scientific cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China and welcomed the organization of the Moldova–China Forum on Chernozem Farming, noting that the Republic of Moldova has valuable research potential in this field.
Her Excellency Ms. Dong Zhihua reaffirmed the support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China for the organization of joint scientific events and for strengthening dialogue between the academic communities of the two countries.
During the discussions, Her Excellency expressed her willingness to support the further development of cooperation between scientists from the Republic of Moldova and China, including between the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She also highlighted the importance of intensifying exchanges of researchers, professors, and students, developing joint training programmes, and strengthening cooperation between research and higher education institutions in the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China.
